At first, I thought this idea was too much of a designer inside joke to work, but the more I look around the more I think that people might appreciate something like this.
“Design by committee” is another way of saying that something is poorly thought-out. See, if you get together a group of people with poor leadership and no clear vision, you’re going to wind up with something that is needlessly complex, logically flawed and probably kind of ugly to boot.
Essentially, you ask a committee to build you a horse and they come back with a camel. A British car designer named Alec Issigonis said it better:
“A camel is a horse designed by committee”
So here’s what I’m thinking – a small logo that designers will know but will be irrelevant to everyone else that can be put on things that are well-designed with a clear purpose in mind. Since most web developers work in very small teams, the image could serve as a kind of credit to them and their vision.
No big deal. Just trying to start an Internet revolution. Here are my design concepts so far. I hope to add to them later.

These are all PNG files with transparency, so feel free to use them in something you’ve made.
Of course, as soon as this idea starts getting any traction, it would be co-opted by companies that want the “street cred,” so there would need to be some sort of regulatory body to ensure the logo isn’t being misused. Oh well, it’s a start.
