Sign up for an audition at the activities fair, our open house, or in the lobby of Woolworth music building (near Frist).

Auditions will be held at night. As with everything else we do, we strive to make them as relaxed and casual as possible. Don't stress out about the audition. Really. And have fun with it-- that's the whole point.

What can I expect at auditions?

Auditions will last 15 minutes and consist of a few different parts:

Warm-ups: We will begin by doing a few warm-up exercises to help relax you and your voice.

Singing with the piano: We will go up and down in your range in a series of scales. In addition to warming up, this will give us a chance to get a sense of your range.

Chords: After warming up, our music director will play a series of chords and you will be asked to identify and sing a particular note within the chord. Our goal here is to see how will you can hear how notes fit together within a chord and relative to each other.

Pitch-Matching: Next, our music director will play a few sets of notes on a piano that you will be asked to sing back to the group. This will help us see how well you can hear pitches relative to each other.

Swells: Then, the music director will give you a series of notes to sustain at higher and lower volumes. Here's where you can show off the power and versatility of your voice.

Solo: Now comes the most fun part of the audition. We would like to hear you sing a song that you like, that you know well, and that you are extremely comfortable with. This is your chance to show the group what you can do. Feel free to choose any song you want, as long as it shows off the strong points of your voice. Then just rock out and have fun.
